Mid-Atlantic Ridge

The Mid-Atlantic Ridge is an undersea mountain range formed by the movement of tectonic plates. It spans almost the entire length of the Atlantic Ocean and is the longest mountain range in the world. The range was only discovered in 1872, when a large rise was discovered in the middle of the Atlantic while preliminary investigations were being conducted for a transatlantic telegraph cable.
