Nepean Bay

Nepean Bay is located on the north-east coast of Kangaroo Island, South Australia, about 130 kilometres south-south-west of Adelaide. To seaward, Nepean Bay faces north-east and it is marked by Kingscote at its northern extremity and Point Morrison to the east. Matthew Flinders named Nepean Bay on 21 March 1802 after First Secretary to the Admiralty, Sir Evan Nepean (1752 – 1822). A career civil servant, Nepean was involved in planning the dispatch of the First Fleet to botany Bay and the administration of New South Wales. He was created a baronet in 1804, was Lord of the Admiralty from 1804 to 1806 and the Governor of Bombay from 1812 to 1819. He died at Loders, Dorset, on 2 October 1822.
