Second Valley

‘Finniss Valley’ was the name that Colonel Light gave to what is now known as ‘Second Valley’. Light named the valley after his assistant, Boyle Travers Finniss. Finniss Valley was the first valley north of Rapid Bay, where Light first landed on the Fleurieu Peninsula. The early settlers of the district referred informally to Rapid Bay as the first valley and Finniss Valley the second. Through popular usage ‘Finniss Valley’ became ‘Second Valley’.
