‘Sturt Creek’ is the popular name for the Sturt River. The Sturt River rises in Upper Sturt in the Adelaide Hills, flows through Coromandel Valley, Marion and Morphettville, and enters the Patawalonga River at Glenelg North. The Patawalonga enters Holdfast Bay, Gulf St Vincent, at Glenelg. Captain Collett Barker discovered the river on 21 April 1831 and named it after the explorer, Charles Sturt. Nine days later, Barker died in tragic circumstances at the Murray Mouth.
