The Isle of Wight is located in the English Channel 5 to 8 kilometres off the coast of Hampshire, in the south of England. The diamond-shaped island has an area of 380 square kilometres and it is separated from the mainland by a strait called the Solent. The Isle of Wight provides a natural shelter for Portsmouth Harbour and the anchorages known as Spithead and St Helen’s Roads.
