French navigator

The French expedition led by Nicolas Baudin visited Kangaroo Island in January 1803. They circumnavigated the Island in Le Geographe and the schooner Casuarina and produced the first charts of the south east coast of the Island. The crew of Le Geographe spent three weeks on the Island and left an inscription on what is now known as Frenchman’s Rock at Hog Bay, Penneshaw.
