[, on board the wrote.]

September 13th I have been very unwell for three or four days – splitting headache & rheumatism. Today however being quite recovered, I wrote or rather finished a letter to my Mother. The wind has been still favorable, and we now confidently expect to spend next Sunday at the Cape. The number of persons on board the Africaine is now 100; a birth took place in the steerage eight days ago and the mother is now not only as the phrase goes ‘as well as could be expected’ but quite well; walking about and preparing to renew her avocation of washing.
