Tuesday, Decr 27. Variable winds. The Cygnet sent a boat
to the fire on shore, but could not land. 5. A
fresh breeze from Westwd. Noon. Light breezes and fine.
P.M. Fresh breezes & fine. Heard three guns fired in Ne-
-pean bay – answered with two guns. Cygnet in company.
8. Shortened sail, & stood off & on for the night. 12. Mode.
