William John Samuel Pullen was engaged as second mate on the Rapid, and to join Surveyor-General Light’s survey staff when he reached South Australia. His memoir begins with reflections on meeting Colonel Light and moves on to an account of activites after the arrival of the Rapid at Kangaroo Island. The account was written in 1842, from memory up to the events of 27 September 1836, after which it was based on notes from 1836. The original includes some extended accounts of the characters and some of the events on board ship which have not been included here.
Pullen’s memoir is in the State Library of South Australia (PRG 303). The transcript used on this site is by Bob Sexton.
